this friday i have an amazing opportunity to attend a CRID Conference (Colorado Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) in Loveland, CO. instead of the entire weekend i am only going for one day. the downside is, i have to miss a full day of work. and i have to call in "sick". i am super excited about the conference where i will get to meet professional interpreters and other students and attend workshops about interpreting. however, i'm nervous about calling the store to say "sorry, i can't come in today, i have something more important to do and you didn't give me the day off." i feel guilty about missing a full 8 hour shift and ditching my manager who will be the only person closing for the entire downstairs. but this opportunity is going to get me further along on my journey to becoming an ASL interpreter. my parents are supporting me going, which helps and i will be going with friends and it is another opportunity to bond. (haha, like we need more of that. we spend everyday together at school) so despite the annoyance of ditching work, i am so excited about this! they cut our registration fee in half so i can go for just 30 $. i will get to meet interpreters from other cities in CO and hopefully meet some students from the other Interpreter Preparation Program in Denver. (we've been told they think people who go through our program are not as good, but maybe they'll be nice anyway)
another step in the direction of my goal to have a real career. i get to wear "grown up" clothes. by the way, next semester we are required to wear professional dress to class everyday. i will have to go shopping later in the summer because i do not own any "business attire."
